GABA is Great for Sleep
For the past few months I have been taking GABA. Sure, I've heard the claims that GABA helps elevate GH levels. And I've read some research that has substantiated those claims. However, all of the research I've seen is dated. And I haven't found anything to suggest that the GH increases are sustained or that they actually have a noticeable positive effect on muscle growth. But that's not why I'm a fan of GABA. Read on to see what I am talking about.
I went through a short period where my sleep was well, not that good. I don't mean that I couldn't fall asleep. I just wasn't sleeping solid. Occasionally I would also wake up in the middle of the night and find it difficult to go back to sleep.
This bad sleep made me tired the following day and it affected my performance at work and in the gym. That led me to look for solutions to my growing problem. My search directed me towards GABA.
I never found any claims by people stating that GABA was some mind blowing GH enhancer that added slabs of muscle. But I did find a number of people in various forums and through other mediums expressing that they felt GABA gave them better sleep at night. I figured it was at least worth a shot.
GABA Had Me Sleeping Soundly Through The Night
After trying GABA for less than a week, I was sleeping soundly through the night. It was awesome! Who cares if it helped me build muscle? I was sleeping like I was a teenager again. That in itself was a great feeling!
I'm sure the consequence of sleeping more and sleeping better likely did help my performance in the gym and therefore it also helped me build some muscle. But that's not why I love GABA. I love it because now I can sleep like a rock and I rarely wake up at all at night. And to me that makes GABA worth every penny.
An interesting thing to note is that my girlfriend, who has chronic insomnia, also started taking GABA. She tells me that it helps her with her sleep too. So, if it is the placebo effect then we both have it. And if it isn't then GABA is at least good for one thing: getting a great night's sleep, which certainly contributes to staying healthy, happy and productive during the day.
