Grasshopper Protein Pie
There
are few things I enjoy more than grasshopper pie. Mint and chocolate
are an awesome flavor combination, especially when made with liquor. The
only problem I have with eating grasshopper pie is that it's loaded
with sugar and fat with hardly any protein to speak of. Well, that all
changed when I decided to create my own grasshopper pie recipe for Protein Pow(der).
This grasshopper pie maintains the same great taste as the original, but with a whole lot more of what
you want to put in your body and a whole lot less of what you don't.
When
I decided to try my hand out at grasshopper pie, I looked at a ton of
recipes. And then I had a few unsuccessful attempts. At first I tried
combining the mint and the chocolate flavors, like most recipes
suggested. But that didn't work out too well with the protein flavors I
was using. I also tried baking my own protein oreos, crushing them and
using that for a crust. But that was just too long and complicated of a
process (it's all about simplicity on this site).
Finally,
I hit the jackpot when I decided to layer my grasshopper pie just like
my stepmom does (and her pies are fantastic!). And instead of a cookie
crust, I combined some protein, crunchy cereal, and sweetener to make a
cookie-like crust without all of the fat and sugar that normally comes
with a cookie crust. The result was a great tasting grasshopper protein
pie with a crunchy cookie-like crust that I think you will agree earns
the right to be called a grasshopper pie.
The
pie you see in the pictures above was the end result of a several week
long journey to create what I believe is the best grasshopper protein
pie around (and possibly the only grasshopper protein pie around). I
shared it with Anna Sward, the owner/operator of Protein Pow(der) and protein cooking superstar, and she asked I would like her to post it on site as a guest recipe. Umm... yea!
I
had been a fan of Protein Pow(der) for a while. So, needless to say, it
was a pretty big honor to have one of my recipes posted on that site.
After a little trial and error and some recipe refinements, I sent the
final result to Anna. She put it up as the first recipe posted in 2014.
The actual recipe can be found here http://proteinpow.com/2014/01/grasshopper-protein-pie-clayton.html.
